July 2014 was my first visit to the Kentucky Horse Park.  I had never visited a horse park prior to this.  I had relocated temporarily to the Lexington, Kentucky area to work a contract job in technology.  I decided to stay longer to learn more about horses, the horse industry, and explore natural Kentucky hiking.

The Kentucky Horse Park is comprised of approximately 1,224 acres.  The park opened in 1978.  It is located off I-75 on Iron Works Parkway and is open to the general public for an admission and parking fee all year round.  There are several events throughout the year including; The Landrover, The Egyptian Event, The Thoroughbred Makeover, Lexington Rodeo, and several others.

The park has several areas to visit including the International Museum of the Horse, Hall of Champions, The Big Barn, The Alltech Arena, The Rolex Stadium, as well as other areas. I was fortunate enough to have visited Cigar twice before his death in the Hall of Champions.  I also attended his Memorial Service.

One of the Kentucky Horse Park’s main attractions is Man O’ War’s tomb.  His tomb was moved to the park from The Faraway Farm in the 1970’s.  A beautiful statue sits on top of his grave by Herbert Haseltine.  It is located near the entrance.

This is just a brief description of the park.  I will be writing in regard to the park from time to time.  I attend events several times a year at the park.  I have included a slide show from July 2014 beneath this post.
