Yuko-En on the Elkhorn is deemed as the ‘official Kentucky – Japanese friendship garden’ and is open year-round.  It is located at 700 US 25 in Georgetown, Kentucky.  I had just finished walking around the Scott County High School when I drove down the road and came upon it.  I decided to check it out.  I thought it was odd to be placed in Kentucky, but Toyota has a huge plant in Georgetown.  The garden is about 5 ½ to 6 acres.

A koi pond is centrally located in the garden where beautiful pink water lilies grow while dragonflies and damselflies nest on their pads.  The garden also contains and educational center, kiln house, arched bridges, a tea house, man-made mini waterfall, as well as several stone sculptures.  There are several kinds of flowers on the property including day lilies, irises, and wisteria.  The educational center can be rented for weddings, picnics, and other events.  The kiln house offers demonstrations on several occasions also.

The property is maintained by the Scott Education and Community Foundation, which is a non-profit.  They rely on volunteers to maintain the grounds, programs, and offer tours.  Contributions are also accepted.  Rental fees for the grounds also help maintain the garden.  The following is a montage from my visits in 2014-2015.
